"First, there was life, hidden beneath the blah, blah, blah...
It's all settled beneath the chitter chatter and the noise, silence and sentiment, emotion and fear.
The haggard, inconstant flashes of beauty. And then the wretched squalor and miserable humanity. All buried under the cover of the embarrassment of being in the world, blah, blah, blah...
Beyond there is what lies beyond. And I don't deal with what lies beyond.
Therefore... let this novel begin.
After all... it's just a trick.
Yes, it's just a trick."
- La Grande Bellezza - Paolo Sorrentino

BELLEZZA

Fissures like needles appeared in the azur
While your steps faded away – muting the hour
Shadows – light swallowed by the morning sky
Silence – volcanic – stoking the melody of my empty cry
Only the Angels’ flutes – in the background - bustled
Time frozen on my penurious world - baffled
Curtains fluttered - thunderbolts lighted the ceiling
Dots of clarity in a mist that was still trembling
Was it an invitation for the dreamful race?
Existence to deploy – precisely – for virtuous pace
While a dark cloud cut through the groove
Its wings of despair on the horizon moved
Shadows holded their breath – on the surface
Fine rain came & went – fresh & new faith
Then, Nothing – or maybe was it Everything?
New worlds overswept the startled land in the evening
At dawn, cherry blossoms trees illuminated my lips
Filaments for utter Jubilee – dear -
Fate that slips

"This was my prayer: a piece of land, not of great size,
With a garden, and a permanent spring near the house,
And above them a stretch of woodland. The gods gave
More and better. It’s fine. I ask for nothing else"
